My first piece. A simple, solid, strong, wooden desk all alone on Craig's List, just waiting for someone to give it life. The owner warned me on the phone, "It was writting all over the top of it. It used to be in an institution."
Institution??? My first thought was some sort of mental institiution and my mind lept to all sorts of ideas of just what may be written on my desk. The gentleman was kind enough to help me load it into the back of my pickup truck and I was off.
Once I got it home, I was really able to look at it. But the writting wasn't at all what I was expecting. "KING JESUS THE ALMIGHTY" "The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them. Psalm 34:17" "Have mercy on me Lord, for I am weak, O Lord. Heal me for my bones are sore vexed. Psalm 6:2"
It was a humble little desk with great beginnings. Who were these people who wrote these on the desk? What kind of institution was it? Whatever kind it was, I like what they were teaching. As soon as I saw the picture of this desk on Craig's List, I could see what I wanted to do to it, to make it beautiful again.
I have since painted over the Scriptures and words of encouragement, but they're still there, under the paint, waiting for the next chapter of this humble desk's story.
